PLOS ONE publishes research into right-wing hate crime co-authored by Dr Margherita Belgioioso

Research, co-authored by Dr Belgioioso, studying links between local deprivation and right-wing hate crime in England, has been published in PLOS ONE.

New research by Dr Margherita Belgioioso has been published in the science journal PLOS ONE. The paper, ‘Local deprivation predicts right-wing hate crime in England’, is co-authored by Dr Cristoph Dworschak (University of York) and Professor Kristian Skrede Gleditsch (University of Essex and Peace Research Institute Oslo).

PLOS ONE is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes interdisciplinary research within the sciences.

The research paper by Drs Belgioioso and Dworschak and Professor Gleditsch demonstrates that community deprivation can increase the risk of right-wing radicalisation and violence, and that measures of local deprivation can help improve the forecasting of local hate crime rates. This study has clear local policy implication and we encourage all interest parties to get in touch with Dr Belgioioso.
