Dr Neil Winn shares commentary on EU and NATO responses to Russia
The article, which appeared in 'UK in a Changing Europe', looks at the co-operation between the EU and NATO following the invasion of Ukraine.
In the article, entitled EU and NATO policy towards Russia: from division to unity of purpose, Dr Neil Winn, Senior Lecturer in European Studies, considers the “remarkably coherent set of responses” that have been implemented since the invasion of Ukraine, and the possibilities that might be observed across Europe.
Dr Winn explains that a “key feature of the Western response is the unity of the sanctions regime.” He then goes on to examine the “complicating factor” of “European dependence on Russian energy”, the increase in military spending and co-operation in Europe “to a degree not seen since the end of the Cold War” and private sector reactions in relation to Russia.
