Elies van Sliedregt explores Corporate Criminal Liability at the University of Pretoria

Professor Elies van Sliedregt will present a paper on ‘The Prospects of Corporate Criminal Liability’ at an International Workshop organised by the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

The workshop will examine the Controversial Aspects of the International Criminal Law Section of the African Court of Justice and Human Rights.

With the adoption of the so-called Malabo Protocol in July 2014, the African Union moved closer to the establishing of an African Court of Justice and Human Rights that will also be endowed with jurisdiction over an extensive list of international crimes. Although the Malabo Protocol is not yet in force, its adoption raises various important legal and policy issues. These range from the nature and scope of the crimes, the relationship between the International Criminal Law Section of the African Court of Justice and Human Rights with member States, with the International Criminal Court, with (organs and institutions of) the African and Union, as well as with those of the Regional Economic Communities.

The one day workshop aims at illuminating some key legal challenges that arise in this regard, drawing on the expertise of international experts in the field. It is hosted by the SARChI Professorship of International Constitutional Law in the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria.
