Norma Martin Clement represents the School at the International Association of Law Schools’ European Forum
Norma Martin Clement represented the School in leading panels and a Study Group on Family Law at the Global Law Deans’ Forum and Annual Meeting in Madrid and Segovia in October 2015.
The University of Leeds is a member of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS) which is a private, non-political, non-profit, organization. It is an association representing more than 155 law schools and departments from over 55 countries with more than 4,500 law faculty members.
One of the primary missions of the IALS is the improvement of law schools and conditions of legal education throughout the world.
In 2013 IALS adopted the Singapore Declaration setting out Global Standards and Outcomes of a Legal Education and building on this adopted the Madrid Protocol setting out Principles of Evaluation of Legal Education in 2015.
As part of that process, Norma Martin Clement represented the School in leading panels and a Study Group on Family Law at the Global Law Deans’ Forum and Annual Meeting in Madrid and Segovia in October 2015.
Norma also chairs the Faculty Innovative Curriculum Awards Committee for the IALS.
The next stage of the IALS mission is to build up the knowledge base to implement both the Singapore Declaration and the Madrid Protocol focusing on systematically evidencing the practice and institutional condition of legal education, capitalizing on the power of the IALS network to inform and pursue improvements at a global level.
As preparation for the next Annual Meeting in San Francisco in October 2016, four regional Law Deans’ Forums have been taking place this spring.
Norma Martin Clement represented Leeds at the European Forum hosted by the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdańsk, Poland.
Norma presented a paper on a panel entitled: Envisioning the Future of Legal Education Globally – Inside the Crystal Ball. Participants at the Forum included Law Deans and Heads of School from Italy, Switzerland, Lithuania, Croatia, Russia, Jordan, and the Czech Republic.
