Dr Eun Hye Kim wins the Academic Society of Competition Law (ASCOLA) Best Junior Paper Award 2026
The prize was presented at the 21st ASCOLA Annual Conference in London.
Dr Kim’s paper, “Measuring Incremental Change in the Case Law: A Reliability and Validity Analysis Using the Rasch Model”, develops a novel methodology for measuring incremental change in the case law and uses it to map the evolution of EU competition law from 1966 to 2025. The analysis revealed a pendulum-like movement between fairness-oriented and laissez-faire approaches to competition law and policy over time.
The jury, comprised of Professors Fabiana Di Porto (chair), Thomas Cheng and Peter Picht say:
The work establishes a new vocabulary for the study of judicial evolution and opens important avenues for future research. Its methodological ambition, technical execution, and scholarly maturity are exceptional.
Dr Kim says:
I am deeply honoured to receive this award from ASCOLA and to join the past winners whose work I admire. I am especially delighted that this recognition has been given to empirical work, as it underlines the need for interdisciplinary approaches at a moment of profound change in the field.
Professor Henry Yeomans, Director of Research and Innovation says:
I want to congratulate Dr Eun Hye Kim on this prestigious award. It is a real achievement and a reflection of the excellent quality of the research that she produces.
