Partnership spotlight: Taylor’s University Programme Director to visit Leeds in October 2026

A two‑day visit from Dr Ambikai S Thuraisingham of Taylor’s University celebrates an important international partnership and highlights why Leeds is a destination of choice for Malaysian law students.

Strengthening a strategic international partnership

The School of Law is delighted to welcome Dr Ambikai S Thuraisingham, Programme Director for the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Taylor’s University, Malaysia, for a two‑day visit to campus in October 2026. Her visit marks a further step in a partnership that has grown steadily over many years and continues to enrich both institutions.

Taylor’s is one of Malaysia’s leading private universities, with a strong reputation for legal education. Our relationship with Taylor’s is built on shared values: academic excellence, a global outlook, and a commitment to student‑centred learning.

It is not just a collaboration, but a strategic alignment that enhances the quality and relevance of legal education.

Creating meaningful global pathways for law students

We spoke to Dr Thuraisingham about what makes the Taylor’s–Leeds partnership meaningful for students and staff across both institutions.

“The partnership between Taylor’s University and University of Leeds is particularly meaningful as it brings together two institutions that share a strong commitment to academic excellence, global outlook, and student‑centric learning.”

For our students, this partnership provides valuable international exposure and progression routes, allowing them to experience diverse legal perspectives, particularly the integration of Malaysian and English law.

Why Leeds appeals to Malaysian law students

“The University of Leeds is an appealing choice for Malaysian students due to its strong academic reputation, globally recognised law school, and commitment to high‑quality, research‑led teaching.”

Leeds also offers a supportive and inclusive learning environment, alongside a vibrant yet student‑friendly city with a lower cost of living compared to cities like London.

Preparing students for international progression

“Taylor’s University prepares its law students through a combination of academic rigour, curriculum alignment, and global exposure.”

This holistic preparation ensures that students transition confidently and perform strongly when progressing overseas.

Deepening academic collaboration

During her visit, Dr Thuraisingham will meet academic colleagues, engage with current students, and explore opportunities for further collaboration.

“I am particularly looking forward to deepening engagement with colleagues at the University of Leeds through academic discussions on teaching, curriculum design, and student development.”

Research interests and scholarly exchange

“My current research interests focus on environmental law and medical law, particularly how legal frameworks respond to sustainability, public health, and bioethics challenges.”

I hope to engage with academics working in environmental regulation and health law and explore opportunities for joint research and collaborative academic initiatives.

A partnership built on trust and shared purpose

The Leeds–Taylor’s partnership reflects genuine collaboration and a shared belief in nurturing global legal talent.

Our partnership with Taylor’s University is built on mutual trust, shared ambition, and a commitment to creating opportunities for outstanding Malaysian students.
