Professor Subedi invited to launch a new human rights research network in the Netherlands

Professor and Barrister Surya P Subedi OBE, QC, has been invited to launch a new Netherlands Network for Human Rights Research at the Asser Institute in The Hague, by eight leading Dutch universities.

As the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, he delivered the inaugural keynote speech on ‘The Effectiveness of the UN Human Rights System: Reform and the Judicialisation of Human Rights’.

In his speech, he presented a critique of the workings of the UN human rights institutions and offered his ideas for reform of the UN system and argued for the judicialisation of human rights at the international level.

The ceremony was attended by academics and researchers from universities across the Netherlands, human rights defenders and diplomats based in The Hague. During his visit to The Hague, Professor also delivered a Master class at the Asser Institute for PhD scholars from universities across the Netherlands on ‘The Shift of Power to the East and the Resurgence of the BRICS and its Impact on the International Human Rights Agenda.’
