Law Society and Women Breaking Barriers Nominated for LawCareers.Net Student Law Society Awards 2024

With over 1,800 individual society members participating in the survey and 32 law societies submitting entries, the nominations highlight the impactful contributions of both student-led societies.

The School of Law is proud to share that two of our student societies, the University of Leeds Law Society and the Women Breaking Barriers (WBB) Network, recently received nominations for the LawCareers.Net Student Law Society Awards 2024.

The nominations were the result of an extensive judging process, with over 1,800 individual society members participating in the survey and 32 law societies submitting their entries. The impressive response reflects the widespread impact and engagement generated by both the Law Society and WBB among their peers at the School of Law.

The Law Society was nominated in the ‘Best Society for First-Year Students’ category. Their executive team, composed of Ben Anderton (President), Olivia Thurston (Treasurer) and Nadia Aboushokka (General Secretary), say about this achievement,

We are delighted to have been nominated for the award! Not only is it a testament to the hard work of the whole committee over the last year, but also shows the eagerness of our members to make the most of the opportunities on offer.

Similarly, the Women Breaking Barriers Network was nominated for two categories, ‘Best Careers Event – Sponsored by Baker McKenzie’ and ‘Best Social Event.’ Co-President, Eliza Brownsord, reflects on their nomination, stating,

This year, Grace (Co-President) and I have really wanted to increase inclusivity and foster a supportive community. I feel as though these nominations really reflect all the hard work we have put in to achieve this and the importance of not only furthering our careers but making meaningful connections.

The LawCareers.Net Student Law Society Awards 2024 will culminate in an awards ceremony and reception scheduled for Thursday, 14 March 2024, at the Law Society Hall in London. The event promises to be an exciting opportunity for networking and celebration, bringing together representatives from sponsor firms and other student-led law societies.

Congratulations to the Law Society and Women Breaking Barriers network on their well-deserved nominations!
