Professor de la Feria publishes policy brief to the G20 on tax reform

Tacking Inequality through Tax Expenditure Reform.

The School of Law’s Chair in Tax Law Professor Rita de la Feria has published a policy brief to the G20 with co-author Dr Agustin Redonda (Council on Economic Policies), calling for tax reform to tackle inequality post the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor de la Feria said of the brief, which is published by the T20, the policy arm of the G20: “Many commonly used tax breaks can increase inequality. We are calling on G20 countries to estimate them, and assess their distributive impact. The global pandemic has not only exposed existing inequalities, but it has exacerbated them. We cannot continue to waste billions in measures that fail to address inequality, or contribute to its increase. The time for action is now.”
