Dr. Sean Butcher quoted in The Independent in article on citizen patrol groups in the UK

Lecturer in Criminal Justice, Dr Sean Butcher has been quoted at length in a recently published Independent long-read article on citizen patrol groups in the UK.

The article discusses whether the existence of such groups is a desirable development, and the extent to which citizen patrol practices can be delivered safety and effectively.

Dr Butcher recently completed his ESRC-funded PhD research on similar initiatives. His thesis defined and charted the history of citizen patrols, and also provided insights into the reasons why individuals partake volunteer, their activities, and how the patrols are received by members of communities and local stakeholders.
