Justice in the Criminal Courts in the 21st Century

Successive legislation and policies have undermined measures which provide safeguards for defendants and offenders appearing in courts to facilitate just and fair decision-making.

This symposium brings together key individuals from across the UK to debate the ways in which justice has been curtailed at different points in the process and the legacy of the changes for conceptions of justice in the court process.

More specifically, it will chart the ways in which legal and policy developments have impacted, in isolation and totality, on defendants’ and offenders’ rights.
