Security on Show

Document viewing of archives from the Chubb collection

About this event

Security is built into today’s world. Locks, alarms, grilles, cameras and private guards are so familiar as to be unremarkable. Explore these features of everyday life by looking at material from the rich and varied Chubb collection. Drawings, photographs, promotional leaflets and scrapbooks illuminate how security products have been made, bought and sold for around 200 years and how they have changed how we think about crime, fire and living with risk. The event will begin with a short introduction.

This event derives from a partnership between the LMA and researchers at the University of Leeds investigating the history of security and the security industry, with a focus on the Chubb and Son collection. The research project ‘Security for Sale in Modern Britain’ is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
