Dr Shouyu Chong has been awarded the 2026 Sir William Blair Scholarship
The Sir William Blair Scholarship is a prize awarded annually by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration.
This is a prestigious and competitive international award, given to one outstanding applicant each from the UK and China, to fund education, research, scholarship or practical work in China (or the UK) on international arbitration.
The selection committee, chaired by Sir William Blair, took into consideration the applicants' academic achievements, research contributions, practical experience, proposed further studies and future potential. Following several rounds of deliberation, the Committee selected Dr Shouyu Chong as one of the Scholarship recipients for 2026.
He says:
I am grateful for the strong support I have received from both my colleagues at the Centre for Business Law and Practice, and especially my students for my research and teaching. There is a vibrant Chinese student community in the Law School, and all of my students have motivated me immensely to explore East Asian perspectives into my own teaching and research. This award is dedicated to my students.
Professor Duncan Sheehan, Director of the Centre for Business Law and Practice (CBLP) says:
I am delighted that Dr Chong has been awarded the Sir William Blair Scholarship for 2026. As a newly established and highly competitive award, the scholarship provides an exceptional opportunity to undertake high-quality, on-site research at the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration.
“This is closely aligned with CBLP's strategic objectives of advancing research excellence, deepening international collaboration, and strengthening engagement with leading legal institutions in China.”
We look forward to seeing Dr Chong’s research contribute to a deeper understanding of international dispute resolution and further our Centre's commitment to fostering meaningful connections between legal scholarship and practice.
