On Thursday 30 November, we were joined by UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect (R2P), Dr. Ivan Šimonovic.

Dr. Šimonovic delivered the second annual lecture of the European Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (ECR2P) on campus and met with POLIS PhD students working on R2P-related topics, before delivering the lecture to the wider University audience, plus participants from across the UK who travelled to the campus for this sold-out event.

Introductory remarks were delivered by Dr Cristina Stefan, Co-Director of the ECR2P, and Dr. Šimonovic was formally welcomed to the University by Professor Jeremy Higham, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Dr. Šimonovic’s lecture was entitled Responsibility to Protect: Operationalisation or Marginalisation?, and was followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
