Workshop on Respect for the Dead
- Date: Tuesday 7 January 2025, 9:45 – 15:45
- Location: Liberty Building SR (G.32)
- Cost: Free
The workshop will be focused on developing and reflecting on research agendas and priorities in this area, an issue that traverses historical and jurisdictional boundaries.
In England, a string of public inquiries have highlighted the importance of the treatment of the dead, both to the living and in terms of social and cultural cohesion (Grenfell, COVID, Hillsborough, to name but a few recent examples). Additionally, the ongoing Fuller enquiry (into the abuse of bodies in a hospital mortuary) and the Hull funeral home scandal have heightened the public and political demands for action in this area. The workshop will therefore provide an interdisciplinary exchange involving both academics and professionals. The day will be of interest to those with a focus on, non-exhaustively, human rights, embodiment, relationships, justice processes, professionalisation, and of course health care/medicine.
