This project seeks to identify the role and benefits of sign language support for deaf children with cochlear implants, by examining good practice in sign bilingual settings.
As a pilot study, this project will identify key areas of policy and practice in sign bilingual schools and services. This will shape the methodology for a larger national study into the different ways in which sign language and spoken language are used in school to support the linguistic and social/emotional development of children with cochlear implants.
