The Contribution of the Global South to the Development of Human Rights

This research project is designed to investigate the contribution of the nations of the Global South to the adoption of major international human rights instruments. Western civilization’s contribution to human rights development has been asserted in a wide range of literature. In contrast, few studies have been conducted on the contribution of non-Western civilisations to human rights development, and Western scholars are markedly less familiar with the role that the nations of the Global South have played in their advancement. This ambitious research aims both to address this intellectual gap and to significantly advance the scope of human rights research beyond existing dominant scholarly and political narratives.
