How did you hear about School of Education and why did you choose to study here?
I have some friends who graduated from the University of Leeds, they recommended this university to me. After searching the school website, I was appealed by the curricula which related to my past experiences.
Tell us about your course – why did you choose it? What elements of the course inspired you to study here?
I studied in MA Education. Except the module ‘Research Skills in Education’, I chose ‘Education, Language and Society’, ‘Creative Inquiry, Communication and Learning’, and ‘Special Education Needs: Inclusive Curriculum’. The course was closely related to my work, it also provided me opportunities to explore my field both theoretically and practically.
What was the best part of your studies – what did you enjoy the most?
I REALLY love the constructive learning and practices in ‘Education, Language and Society’. We experienced five portfolio tasks through the module, each practice session is a gradual process, which allow me to consolidate what I have learned the previous week and explore new areas. The detailed feedback from professor keeps me excited for each week, and in a short period of time, I have gained a clear understanding of the fundamental requirement as a researcher in my field. This has been incredibly rewarding.
What were your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you’ve gained here have helped you in your career plans? In what way?
Having worked for several years before starting my MA studies, my experience in the MA Education programme has greatly influenced my approach to teaching. My exploration of inclusive education has made me think more about the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, and more teaching strategies for students with special needs as well. I hope to put these ideas into practice in the future.
Do you have any noteworthy achievements from your study at the School of Education that you can tell us about?
I got distinction in MA Education; full marks for all portfolio tasks during ‘Education, Language and Society’ and 82/100 for the final score of this module.
If you are not from the UK, how was the transition to a foreign country? Did the University offer support or services that you found helpful? Can you offer any advice?
The events in School of Education included great activities to communicate with student peers, also, the hiking with students in the whole university was wonderful.
(I hardly attended to activities in university; I prefer to stay alone. No advice.)
What was your experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the city of Leeds and the Yorkshire region?
I felt comfortable in the time I stayed in Leeds, people here are very friendly, and I felt calm when I walked in this city. I really enjoy making artifacts with locals and go hiking in forests with my friends. The teachers and staff in the university made me feel safe, they were all patient to me, and I had great journey in campus.
Are there any experiences outside of your studies that you have particularly enjoyed?
We went hiking with my APT in first semester, we visited the filming locations of Harry Potter, and there, my friend took one of the best photos of me. I also enjoyed exploring all sites in Leeds with my friends, I love taking walks in the forest, I enjoy the taste of ginger ale and the summer vibes.
Would you recommend the School of Education to others who are considering studying here?
Yes, I would recommend the school to educators/teachers who are willing to explore in their working context and love to do something practically in education.
