Profile
I am a Student Development Coach in the Faculty of Social Sciences. I work closely with undergraduate students with a focus on helping them build on their confidence, motivation, and self-efficacy so that they can work towards their full academic potential.
Whilst I sit within the Faculty of Social Sciences, I have no involvement in the teaching, assessment or delivery of the academic programmes. This allows me to build a rapport with students and provide them with an opportunity to address their challenges, goals and experiences away from an academic setting. During the coaching sessions, I guide students to help them identify their strengths, and work with them to co-create student development plans that encompass areas for personal and academic growth. Working within the faculty also means that I am able foster a greater sense of belonging for students within in their academic school, as well as being able to support them in reaching out to academic and support staff who also work within the faculty.
The role also sits within the wider Student Success Centre, and sees us support students in line with other Access and Student Success Initiatives. This includes holding Faculty Academic Student Success Stands to help raise awareness of the academic support services that students can access at the University.
