Student presents at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research
Final year Social Policy and Crime student Jose Raisey-Skeats was invited to present his dissertation research at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research in Bournemouth.
His research entitled, A national analysis of everyday racisms, discourses, and anxieties in Spain, with a particular interest to Moroccan immigrants in policy, education, and generational differences in attitudes aimed to increase current understanding and analysis into the experiences of Moroccan immigrants in Spain.
My research of the everyday racisms, discourses, and anxieties focused on the public sphere of Spanish life, with a particular interest in generational differences.
Exploring themes highlighted in a review of literature, Jose decided to test these ideas by carrying out research with over 70 participants from Catalonia to explore their experiences, which he presented at the conference.
Jose’s trip was supported of the Footsteps Fund, which was founded on the principle that all outstanding students should have the opportunity to benefit from, and make the most of, their experience at Leeds, regardless of their background.
Reflecting on the opportunity Jose said, “I was blessed with the company of brilliant students from the University of Leeds, along with the other 440 that attended the event to contribute to an incredible atmosphere and humbling experience. It was so fascinating and incredible to have the opportunity to learn aspects of different disciplines and it has definitely strengthened my further study and job applications.”
