Profile

I am currently undertaking an ESRC collaborative PhD studentship which examines the role of political education and democratic engagement. In one sentence my research seeks to examine whether programs of democratic engagement promote inclusivity in the way in which children are introduced to democratic rights and processes. In doing so I hope to contribute to a body of literature assessing one of the critical challenges faced by modern democracies. Namely whether structures of governance empower young people in an inclusive manner to become politically engaged and in doing so ameliorate societal inequalities. This project will be concerned with the wider issues of citizenship and the way in which various demographics in society understand, participate in and shape our models of governance.
