Linda Wu

Profile

I started my doctoral study in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds in 2025. Before that, I completed my Master of Arts in Society, Culture and Media at the University of Leeds. My Master’s dissertation, Deconstructing Gender Stereotypes within the Postfeminism Context: A Comparison between Barbie (2023) and Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper (2004), examined how Barbie’s identity has transformed over time and what limitations remain. This research inspired my current interest in exploring the gender representation of East Asian women in film.

Prior to my postgraduate studies, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Cultural Studies from the Department of Sociology at Lancaster University. I am particularly interested in visual analysis and media and cultural studies, especially in relation to how global media shapes ideas of gender, culture, and identity.
