Profile
My PhD follows an MA Global Governance and Diplomacy (2023-24) at the University of Leeds, during which I explored Soft and Hard Power in Space, and BA International Relations and Politics (2019-23) at the University of Sheffield, during which I explored the Soft Power of Chess during the US-USSR Cold War (BA). My PhD sits atop this solid foundation, which includes a publication regarding the international relations of FIFA, its World Cup, and its hosting nations.
Research interests
Sporting Goods will explore the mechanics between sport, diplomacy, and power; uncover the power of Sports Mega-Events (SMSs) including the FIFA World Cup and Olympics; and discover why and how FIFA World Cups are increasingly being hosted by nations conventionally deemed autocratic (the nascent ‘sportocracy’).
