Profile
My research focuses on analyzing Mexico's post-2000 democratic transition through the lens of municipal urban conditions. I aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of citizen participation tools in empowering individuals living in the municipality of Tlajomulco. Additionally, I sought to identify citizens who actively access these democratic mechanisms and investigated how they perceive, negotiate, and engage with them. Lastly, I aimed to identified and explore alternative forms of community organizing within the municipality beyond the ‘invited’ participation spaces. To conduct my research, I chose one specific form of social organization implemented by the local government: the social councils. To explore this type of organization, I used a political ethnographic approach, focusing on three neighborhoods with different contexts and social classes. This allowed me to observe how this form of social organization is implemented, noting similarities and differences in the process.
