Dr Simge Aslan

Profile

I joined the University of Leeds in September 2025 as a Lecturer in Business Law.
Prior to this, I spent many years at the University of Nottingham; first as an LLM student, then a PhD researcher and later as a Teaching Associate where I taught Law of Contract and Corporate Insolvency Law. Before academia claimed me, I was a qualified lawyer in a firm in Istanbul where I specialised on Competition and Anti-Trust, and Corporate Law.

Research interests

My research focuses on the private law implications, particularly in insolvency law and personal property law, of digital assets. My paper on digital assets and automated transactions in insolvency was awarded the silver medal of the 2025 Prize in International Insolvency Studies by the International Insolvency Institute.

My current research currently largely deals with decentralised ledger technology, digital assets and automated transactions in the realm of private law. I do however have a broader interest in the area of personal property law and insolvency law.
