Dr Ioanna Lapatoura

Profile

I am a Lecturer in Intellectual Property Law at the University of Leeds. I hold a PhD in Law from the University of Nottingham. I undertook research in the areas of intellectual property law, blockchain technology and fashion, for which I have been awarded a UoN School of Law Scholarship. I have previously taught Intellectual Property law at University College London (UCL), the University of Nottingham and Kingston University London.

I have also worked with Professor Estelle Derclaye and the University of Nottingham Commercial Law Centre as a research assistant on copyright law (2021) and was the Co-Chair of the UoN PGR Law Learning Community Forum (2022-2023). I hold a Master of Laws (LLM) in IP & IT law from the University of Sussex with Distinction, as well as a First Class with Honours Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Coventry University. I have been a guest lecturer in fashion law and tech at, among others, the Milano Fashion Institute, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Szeged.

 

Research interests

My research interests include comparative IP (copyright, trade marks and design rights) as well as IT law, emerging technologies (generative AI, blockchain) and the creative industries (fashion, art). She currently undertakes research on fair use and the metaverse.
