Dr Maria Anna Corvaglia

Profile

I am a Lecturer in Commercial Law at the Leeds’ School of Law since January 2020, after having served as lecturer for three years at the University of Birmingham. Before that, I held a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position at the Durham Law School (in the context of the ERC-funded research project on “Neo-Federalism”) and the University of Bern After graduating in political sciences (BA) and International Relations (MA) from LUISS University in Rome, I obtained a second MA degree in international law and economics (at the World Trade Institute WTI, University of Bern) and a PhD in International Law at the University of Zurich Law School.

Research interests

My research so far has primarily focused on analysing patterns of fragmentation and coherence in international economic law. More specifically, most of my publications to date have focused on international trade law, the international regulation of public procurement and the protection of socio-environmental concerns in international economic law. In my research on the multi-layered trade and economic governance, I follow a strong comparative and interdisciplinary approach.

My research has been published in journals such as the Journal of International Economic Law and the Journal of World Investment & Trade and my monograph, Public Procurement and Labour Rights: Towards Coherence in International Instruments of Procurement Regulation, was published by Hart Publishing in 2017. This book sheds new light on the legal and political implications of the social use of public procurement and engages in a comprehensive and innovative comparative analysis of the major international public procurement regulations (i.e. WTO, EU Regulations, the World Bank Guidelines).
