Dr Sarah Daniel

Profile

I joined the University of Leeds in October 2024 as a Research Fellow working on the “Young people, criticality and figurative language” project. My PhD research looked at the translation of metaphorical expressions relating to immigration in the left-wing French newspaper Le Monde diplomatique and combined a corpus-based and an experimental study. This was a joint project between Swansea University and Université Grenoble Alpes.
Prior to my PhD I worked in the translation industry in various roles: project manager, in-house translator/proofreader, and freelance translator. I am CELTA qualified and have taught English in-person in France and Chile as well as online. I have also taught pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes at Nottingham University.
 

Research interests

My research interests centre around how metaphor is used to convey ideology and how people understand, evaluate, and challenge these framings. I am also interested in how translation process research can be used in translation pedagogy, both to give an insight into students’ current practices and as a way of modelling other practices and competencies.
