Szu Han Ke

Profile

I am a Higher Education practitioner with expertise in technology-enhanced language teaching. Before joining the University of Leeds, I gained international teaching experience in China and Taiwan, where I taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and developed specialised online language courses. At Newcastle University and the University of Birmingham, I led seminars and workshops on topics such as Technology Enhanced Language Learning and Teaching Languages Online, integrating digital tools into language education.

I am completing a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Newcastle University. My research focuses on the multimodal orchestration of teacher-provided corrective feedback in online EFL settings. Using Multimodal Interaction Analysis, I explore the dynamics of videoconferencing-mediated corrections and online corrective feedback. This research contributes to the understanding of effective feedback mechanisms in digital learning environments.

Research interests

Key areas of my research expertise include:

Multimodal Interaction Analysis: I investigate how different modes (verbal, visual, gestural, textural, and digital) are used in online learning environments to provide effective feedback and enhance learner engagement. My PhD research explored the multimodal composition of teacher-provided corrective feedback and its relationship with learner uptake in Taiwanese videoconferencing EAP lessons.

Technology-Enhanced Language Learning (TELL): I explore the pedagogical affordances and constraints of various digital tools and their impact on language acquisition. I have worked on developing and implementing teaching strategies and materials that utilize digital technologies to improve language learning outcomes.
