What made you want to apply to your course and to Leeds?
I was drawn to Leeds due to the nature of its courses. It offered me an ideal combination of self-study and taught lectures. Further, it presented an impressive array of electives that fit perfectly with me career goals.
What is it that makes you passionate about your area of study?
What I love most about my area of study is the value of knowledge within this domain. The field of international relations places a lot of important on truths, beliefs and value systems. It is exciting to discover these factors while deconstructing the world through theories.
What do you think of your course so far – what aspects of the course have you enjoyed the most or are looking forward to the most?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my course so far. The best aspects of it, according to me, is the readings that my professors prescribe. Some offer deep insights into weekly lectures while others give us perspective on incidents that have happened in our lifetime. It is quite exciting to understand life events that we do not usually pay attention to.
What would you say about the learning facilities at the University of Leeds?
The university seems extremely committed to providing top-notch learning facilities to students. It holds extensive amounts of virtual and physical databases. Further, it is extremely convenient for me to be able to access several online publications for references and extra readings.
How would you describe the student support and community at Leeds? Have you taken part in any co-curricular or social events you would like to mention?
The POLIS department has been very engaging and supportive. Apart from allotting tutors, the postgraduate community has also been of help. In addition, the POLIS career newsletters and sessions have been very useful.
What other activities are available for students to take part in outside of their studies, and which ones have you tried out yourself?
The Leeds University Union seems to have activities for everyone. I have gone on LUU trips, which have been a wonderful way of exploring Yorkshire and meeting new people.
What do you think about Leeds as a city?
Leeds is a wonderful city that is ideal for students. It is perfectly located with proximity to several national parks. It is also quite affordable and is very culturally diverse.
What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course?
I would suggest prospective students to make full use of virtual open days and events. It is in everyone’s best interest to stay informed and understand how the courses will play out. Further, look through the syllabus and its reading material uploaded on university websites. Finally, get in contact with alumni through the university page and/or LinkedIn.
What do you plan to do once you’ve finished your course? What are you career aspirations?
I plan on taking up a research-based role with an IGO based in the United Kingdom or the EU. As for career aspirations, I am keeping my options open within my areas of interest.
