How did you hear about the School of Education and why did you choose to study here?

Studying in the UK had always been a dream of mine. Finding out that the University of Leeds ranks among the top 100 universities worldwide made me even more determined to apply. The School of Education stood out to me for its strong focus on both educational theory and practical classroom experience. I believed it was the right place for me to grow as a teacher and as a person.

Tell us about your course – why did you choose it? What elements of the course inspired you to study here?

My interest in education and supporting diverse learners motivated me to study this course. I was drawn to its strong focus on developing research skills alongside practical teaching methods. The course encouraged critical thinking and reflection, helping me learn how to use research to improve classroom practice. Learning from experienced staff and engaging with current educational challenges inspired me and prepared me well for my future career.

What was the best part of your studies – what did you enjoy the most?

The most rewarding aspect of my studies was the opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussion and to learn from peers and lecturers with different perspectives. The course encouraged me to reflect critically on my own teaching and explore new approaches to education. I also valued the supportive learning environment, which fostered collaboration and personal growth throughout my time at Leeds.

What were your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you’ve gained here have helped you in your career plans? In what way?

My goal has always been to create a classroom where every student feels supported and included. This course helped me get closer to that goal. I learned how to reflect on my teaching, use research to improve my practice, and think more critically about how children learn. It also gave me confidence to keep developing as a teacher and to support others in their learning as well.

Do you have any noteworthy achievements from your study at the School of Education that you can tell us about?

During my time at the School of Education, I participated in a conference where I presented a project focused on using virtual reality (VR) in education. This experience gave me the chance to discuss innovative teaching methods with education professionals and expand my understanding of new technologies in learning. I was also honoured to be nominated by the School of Education for the Above and Beyond Award, which recognised my dedication and commitment throughout my studies. These experiences have been important milestones in my professional growth and have encouraged me to keep developing as an educator.

What was your experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the city of Leeds, and the Yorkshire region?

My experience at the University of Leeds was very positive. The facilities were modern and well-equipped, providing a great environment for both study and collaboration. The staff in the School of Education were knowledgeable and approachable, always willing to offer support and guidance. I also enjoyed learning alongside my peers, who came from diverse backgrounds and brought different perspectives to discussions.

Living in the city of Leeds was a wonderful experience. It is vibrant and welcoming, with a rich cultural scene and plenty of opportunities to explore. The Yorkshire region itself is beautiful, with easy access to countryside and historic towns, which made it a great place to live and study.

Are there any experiences outside of your studies that you have particularly enjoyed?

Outside of my studies, I really enjoyed exploring the city of Leeds and the surrounding Yorkshire region. The mix of cultural events, parks, and historic sites offered a great balance to my academic work. I also appreciated meeting people from different backgrounds through university events and local activities, which broadened my perspective and helped me build a strong network. These experiences enriched my time at Leeds and contributed to my personal growth.

Would you recommend the School of Education to others who are considering studying here?

As a Chevening scholar, I have greatly valued the opportunity to connect with a global network of professionals, which has enriched my experience even further. I would recommend the School of Education to anyone considering studying here. The teaching is excellent, and the staff are very supportive. The course is thoughtfully designed to help students develop both practical skills and academic knowledge. Overall, the School of Education provides a strong environment for learning and personal growth.
