Profile

I am a senior teaching fellow in Disability Studies. I completed my PhD in the School of Sociology and Social Policy in 2001 and have been working in the School ever since - researching and teaching in the field of disability studies. I am the disability contact for the School of Sociology and Social Policy as well as representing the school on the faculty Equality and Inclusion committee. I am also Equality and Inclusion coordinator for the faculty. I am an executive editor of the international journal Disability and Society.

I have an interest in number of research areas in the disability studies field, including:

  • disability in higher education
  • global perspectives on disability

Student education

I am heavily involved in the MA in Disability Studies where I am module lead for Social Policy, Politics and Disabled People and Disability and Development. I also run the level 2 undergraduate module Disability Studies: An Introduction. I supervise dissertations at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels and am proud to have seen five PhD students through to completion.
