Aidan Foster-Carter interviewed about upcoming North Korean general election

Aidan Foster-Carter shares his opinions on the upcoming general election in North Korea.

Featured in 'The Voice of Russia', Aidan Foster-Carter discusses the "long tradition" of North Korean general elections.

He talks about the purpose of parlimentary elections in the country and whether we will witness more  transparency from the future Korean leader.

When asked- 'What could be the purpose of parliamentary elections in North Korea?' he responded;

"In North Korea the pretence is particularly transparent. There is only one candidacy in each constituency. And they routinely say that almost everybody votes, unless you’ve gone abroad or gone fishing, then you are let off. And 100%, not even 99% vote "yes". So, it is strange, really. It is part of an obvious charade, but to them it is important."
