Mediterranean Racisms, connections and complexities in the Mediterranean region

Ian Law will exhibit his new book. It provides an analysis of racism in the Mediterranean region.

In this seminar Ian Law will present some of the major findings from his new book, which is the latest in the Mapping Global Racisms series and the sixth instalment of his ten books in ten years project interrogating the racialisation of the planet. This is the first book to provide an analysis of racism in the Mediterranean region employing new theoretical tools including polyracism, racial Arabisation and racial Nawarisation and drawing on new evidence on racism in North Africa, Lebanon, Cyprus and Greece and a new case study of the Roma campland in Italy.  Its four chapters examine the history and development of racial Mediterreanianisation, contemporary racial conditions in three case studies of Morocco, Lebanon and Cyprus, racialised governance of Mediterranean Roma and Europe's deadly 'expulsion machine' , this is an international system of controls, operations and agreements that push back the borders of surveillance to the South and the East.1
