The centre for International Research on Care, Labour & Equalities (CIRCLE) welcomes Dr Angela Bagnato from the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria.
The paper presents the Italian regulation of social services with a focus on care services for older people. It explores political dynamics in Calabria, one of the poorest regions in Italy, in order to explore the implications of a national approach to local welfare. Discussion will focus on current public supply of care services for older people in Reggio Calabria and the social phenomena connected with lack of services (informal care, female migration, undeclared work).
Dr Angela Bagnato is a Research Fellow at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria, Italy. She is working on a research project ‘Social services and cohesion’ financed by the regional government of Calabria. Her research focuses on the public supply of care services for older people and the impact of the financial crisis on governance.
