Welfare for older people: the case of Reggio Calabria

The centre for International Research on Care, Labour & Equalities (CIRCLE) welcomes Dr Angela Bagnato from the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria.

Abstract

The paper presents the Italian regulation of social services with a focus on care services for older people. It explores political dynamics in Calabria, one of the poorest regions in Italy, in order to explore the implications of a national approach to local welfare. Discussion will focus on current public supply of care services for older people in Reggio Calabria and the social phenomena connected with lack of services (informal care, female migration, undeclared work).
