Unveiling of a blue plaque to celebrate 50th anniversary of the first national trans conference

Leeds Civic Trust, CIGS & Faculty of Social Sciences invite you to the unveiling of a blue plaque celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first trans conference organised by the University of Leeds.

Sponsored by the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, the plaque will be unveiled by the Lord Major of Leeds Councillor Al Garthwaite. Executive Dean for the Faculty of Social Sciences Paul Johnson will be giving a speech on behalf of the Faculty.

The blue plaque celebrates the significance of this conference and the impact it had on the Trans community in the decades that followed.

The importance of the plaque was underlined by the award of a temporary rainbow plaque in 2018 which went on display in the Parkinson Building at the University of Leeds. The blue plaque ensures that there is now a permanent reminder of this important event that the city played host to in 1974.
