Please tell us a bit about yourself
I am a second year Politics student, and did Politics, Philosophy and History at A-level. I live in London and I’m also half Czech, explaining my surname!
What motivated you to apply to study your chosen course and why did you choose Leeds?
I felt powerless not being old enough to vote and seeing the political system decaying, so I realised the only way I could shift this was getting increasingly educated about politics in order to create change. I chose Leeds because it is a beautiful city and I was impressed with the diversity of the student body and the high quality of research.
What do you think of your course, have there been any particular highlights for you?
I’d have to say British Politics seminars with George Aylett sticks out in my mind, where we discussed everything from his experience running to be an MP, the impact TikTok has on politics and whether Buckingham Palace should be converted into council housing.
How would you describe the help and guidance provided by the staff within the School?
I’ve had a very positive experience; all staff have been approachable and helpful, and my personal tutor was very supportive when I was going through a rough patch.
How would you describe the facilities at the University?
Fabulous, the libraries are stunning and very relaxing to work in.
Have you been involved in extra-curricular activities, such as societies, summer placements etc?
During the first semester I was in the annual Christmas Panto where we performed Romeo & Juliet. Learning choreography and vocals for over 10 songs was challenging to say the least, but it was an absolute blast, and I met some absolute gems in the cast. I also write for the Politics Blog weekly and hope to expand the readership going forward.
