The Professor Fiona Willams Progression Scholarship supports current UK students at the University of Leeds to fulfil their academic potential and progress to a full-time campus-based Masters degree in the School of Sociology and Social Policy. 

These competitive scholarships are awarded to particularly deserving candidates in the form of a 100% tuition fee reduction. 

Full Eligibility Criteria

Eligible courses 

Eligibility criteria 

To be considered for this scholarship you must: 

  • be classified as a UK (Home) student for tuition fee purposes 

  • hold an undergraduate degree at 2:1 or above from the University of Leeds 

  • have made a significant contribution to citizenship (e.g. acted as School or Course Rep or School Ambassador etc). 

  • have applied for 2024/2025 entry for a Masters degree included in the eligible courses section 

Decisions are based on the quality of your supporting statement within the scholarship application, which should demonstrate a significant contribution to citizenship during your undergraduate studies at the University of Leeds. 

Financial criteria 

  • You must also meet one of the following financial criteria: 

1. If you graduated from full-time education between 2019 and 2023  

You must be able to evidence that:  

  • For Student Finance England funded students, you were in receipt of a Maintenance Loan greater or equal to the value(s) indicated in the following table for at least one year of study.

  • For students funded by either Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, you were in receipt of any value of Special Support Grant/Welsh Assembly Learning Grant/SAAS Bursary, or in receipt of a Welsh Government Learning Grant of £4,000 or more, for at least one year of study. 

2. If you graduated from a full-time undergraduate degree in 2017 or 2018  

You must be able to provide evidence that you received one of the following (of any value) for at least one year of study:  

  • Maintenance grant  

  • Special Support Grant  

  • Assembly Learning Grant  

  • Welsh Government Learning Grant  

  • SAAS (Student Awards Agency for Scotland) Bursary  

3. All other applicants  

You must be able to provide evidence of individual, gross taxable income during the 2021/22 tax year of no more than:   

  • £39,771 if you lived in the Greater London region  

  • £28,059 if you lived anywhere else in the rest of the UK 

Conditions 

  • Scholarship offers cannot be deferred. 

  • Applicants to online degrees or blended learning / hybrid degrees are not eligible for this scholarship. 

  • You must not already hold a qualification at Masters level.

Successful applicants will be notified of their scholarship offer by email within four weeks of the closing date. If you have not heard from us by this point unfortunately you have not been successful.
