Dr Shaheen Kattiparambil

Profile

I joined the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds in 2018 for my PhD.  My PhD was completed in December 2022 titled “Reorienting Muslimness in Postcolonial India.” This research investigated the entanglements of Muslim subjectivity and state formation in postcolonial India. I worked in SSP as a teaching assistant from 2019-2023. I was appointed as a lecturer in the school in October 2024.   

Research interests

My research interests include race, ethnicity and racism, Islamophobia, critical theory, political sociology, critical Muslim Studies and decoloniality.

Student education

In the School of Sociology and Social Policy, I teach on a wide range of modules. The topics I cover include race and racism, state crimes, study skills and central problems in sociology.

I am particularly intersted in teaching about race and racism and its theoretical aspects.
