Profile

I completed my undergraduate degree in Clothing and Textile and History of Art at Ewha womans University in South Korea. After a few years of experience including working as a fashion designer, staying in the US and working in Malaysia, I decided to go back to school. Consequently, I earned a MA in Area Studies after studying in Yonsei University in South Korea.

What motivated me to undertake PhD study?

While work experience and living in other countries were valuable, I became to be interested in knowledge production and I wanted to have an opportunity for it.

What are my plans once I have completed my PhD?

I would like to have a job enabling me to continue in research.

Research interests

In recent years, it is easy to spot young women in traditional dress at some Korean heritage sites. It seems that these girls and young women enjoy to wear traditional dress. I will research why and how young Korean women appropriate allegedly ‘traditional’ clothing in the context of modern Korean society.
