Profile
I am a PhD candidate in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. Before joining the University of Leeds in 2025, I completed a BA in Sociology at Ankara University (2012–2017) and an MSc in Sociology at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Turkey, where my dissertation examined xenophobia as a reflection of domestic and foreign relations in the 21st century. My doctoral studies are funded by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MEB-YLSY) scholarship program. My broader academic interests include algorithmic governance, data justice, sociology of technology, higher education inequalities, and public perceptions of AI.
Research interests
My research explores public perceptions of algorithmic discrimination and fairness in higher education admissions, with a particular focus on AI, automated decision-making, and sociotechnical approaches to fairness. My current PhD project, Approaching Public Perceptions of Algorithmic Discrimination in Higher Education Admission: A Mixed-Methods Study, investigates how students and admissions staff evaluate fairness, inclusion, and discrimination in the potential future use of AI within university admissions processes. My broader academic interests include algorithmic governance, data justice, sociology of technology, higher education inequalities, and public perceptions of AI.
