University of Leeds at COP28: Meet the Delegation

At the end of November all eyes will turn to Dubai, as the United Arab Emirates will be host to COP28.

The annual United Nations climate negotiations will see people from across the world gather to discuss and demand action on climate change. Hundreds of presidents and prime ministers will be joined by thousands of delegates to agree a pathway for reaching the targets set out in the Paris Agreement of 2015.

Among those delegates will be several researchers and students from the University of Leeds. As an official observer of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the University of Leeds is sending a delegation to attend COP28. Members of the delegation will be involved in hosting and speaking at events as well as conducting research. They will also contribute to the accountability of the process and use the opportunity to meet with a wide range key stakeholders.

This online event offers the University of Leeds community an opportunity to meet members of their COP28 delegation. As an introduction, we will offer an overview of COP28 and outline its importance: both scientific and political. You will then hear from several members of the delegation about their planned activities and hopes for the negotiations. Finally, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and share any messages that you would like to be taken to COP28.
