A Global Perspective on Defamation and Privacy Law Conference

This conference will capture the global perspective on contemporary defamation and privacy law issues, both in terms of the theoretical and practical challenges that the law faces.

This conference brings together contributors to András Koltay and Paul Wragg, eds, Research Handbook on Comparative Defamation and Privacy Law (Edward Elgar, 2020). Its purpose is to capture the global perspective on contemporary defamation and privacy law issues, both in terms of the theoretical and practical challenges that the law faces and the overlapping issues between the two claims. The book represents a distinctive contribution to the literature through its aim to represent non-Western legal systems and attitudes toward the global problems raised. It also addresses the challenges that new technologies present.

The book will be populated by contributions from 20-25 leading academics, with each chapter around 8,000-10,000 words in length. The conference will provide an opportunity for authors to present their work and take in comments from their peers. It will last two full days and be divided into panels corresponding to the seven substantive sections of the book. We expect each panel to have around two or three contributors on it, depending upon availability. There will be a conference dinner at the end of the first day, which will provide a valuable opportunity for networking and informal discussion of the papers.
