Social Justice Stories in Legal Education - Jacqui Kinghan

Dr. Jacqui Kinghan will speak about UK cause lawyers as a progressive social movement.

Abstract

This talk will draw on doctoral work exploring UK cause lawyers as a progressive social movement and the role that their experiences of legal education (in UK and abroad) played in shaping their careers. The paper addresses narratives of lawyers pursuing social change and working over a fifty-year period from the 1970s to the present day.  It will outline experiences of both exclusion and inclusion – especially in relation to class background – and reflects on the role and place of social justice stories within contemporary legal education and beyond.
